Colors of Blades of Glory

The movie clip that I chose to analyze is Blades of Glory.

It is about a skating on ice competition that takes place in Montreal Canada. It is very curious because the scene is of a Male Couple which is not very common. The two guys start making their performance according to the rhythm of the Aerosmith´s song “I don´t want to miss a thing”. They are very coordinated in their skating, but in the middle of the show one of the guys falls down and everybody in the audience are unhappy with that. Then his partner – who apparently was his enemy in the past-, encourages him to continue with the routine and finish it. They start to gain the audience´s approval and at the end win the competition and make all the public cheer for them.

The main colors that the clip highlight are blue and red. One of the guys uses blue, the other one uses red. Also in the skating ring the floor is white and all the letters and lines in the floor are blue and red. For me this represents the balance between two things very different that could be assembled by mutual respect and cooperation. When one of the guys fell and the other one helped him they demonstrated that they could solve their differences and done some teamwork to achieve their dreams of winning a competition. The red means hot; the blue means cold. I believe they wanted to show the harmony between this two opposite things with rhythm and dance. It is like mixing fire with ice in a unique thing that allows both of them to live together. Also the audience is very colorful. There are many different colors that for me represent diversity and representation of all races, so this perfect matched of Ice and Fire gain the respect of all kinds of races.

I agree with the use of these colors because according to my culture and my country red and blue are very meaningful to show rivalry. Also red is the color of the political party of our actual President, and the blue has been used by his opposition political party. If I would like to describe how my actual President and his opposite can work together in something just for the benefit of everybody and even their own benefit I definitively would represent it with blue and red.
